Building Integrated Photovoltaic System (BIPV)

A complete Building Integrated Photovoltaic System (BIPV) and it's working principle:

1. Solar Photovoltaic Modules
Solar photovoltaic (PV) modules are typically installed on the roof as retrofitted or integrated as part of the building. These modules will convert sunlight into direct current (DC) power at sunny day time.


2. Inverter
The DC power from the solar photovoltaic (PV) is sent to an inverter, where it is converted into alternating current (AC) power, or standard electrical current for home uses.

3. Metering
Output of the inverter is fed back to the local utility TNB distribution's grid via direct feed. Therefore, an AC kWh meter is installed besides TNB supply meter to record and monitor the PV electricity generated.

4. Utility Grid
The BIPV system allowing the home remains connected to the utility grid to supply with electricity when more power is needed than the BIPV system has produced, such as at night.
